LET

Colossians 3:15 says, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace.  And be thankful.” Notice the word “let” here and in John 14:27, “Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”  Do not allow fear in.  Do not allow troubling thoughts to bother you.  Give them no space.  Rather, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.  His peace can rule in your heart as well as mine.  Jesus has enough peace to go around.

What is God’s role in obtaining peace for me?

He does everything.  He leaves His peace with us.  He’s the peace giver.  Jesus said in John 16:33, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”  Don’t overlook the facts in this verse.  In Jesus, we may have peace.  At the same time, in this world we will have trouble.  But don’t be discouraged, because Christ has overcome the world.  Don’t wait for everything to be perfect to have peace.  Have peace despite the troubles you are going through.  Christ’s peace can be yours.

What is my role in obtaining peace?

Receive it in faith.  Trust Christ.  Abide in Him.  Isaiah 26:4 says “Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal.”  We can always depend on the Lord.  Receive His peace by faith.  Be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Let godly character flow through you.  Remember “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”  With the Holy Spirit flowing in and through us, we can expect a surge of peace within.  This peace is not from us but from the Holy Spirit.

Will you LET the peace of Christ rule in your heart?  I pray that you will.
