Gazing

There is an area of trees in my local park that I find myself constantly gazing at.  I try to find another reason to turn that way again. The other trees are also beautiful in their own way, but there is something extra special about this set of trees.  They boast colors of pretty pink, red and orange all in one feast for the eyes.  The green grass looks like it has been snowed on with colorful pink leaves. It’s fun to get off the park’s path and just to walk under those trees.  It almost seems sinful to step on all that prettiness beneath my feet…paths of color.  How lovely.   Sometimes crunchy…sometimes smooth or slippery…

I thought today that it will be like this in Heaven.  So much to see.  Beauty everywhere.  Wonderful sights.  Colors.  Dazzling, stunning scenes we never even dreamed of.  But then there is a sight to behold that can’t match anything else.  The sight of Him will leave us in awe.  Jesus.  Our King.  In wondrous splendor and holiness.  We will gaze at Jesus.  Unchanging Jesus.  His beauty never fades.

Soon the leaves will finish falling here on earth and the trees will be barren.  Their barrenness will remind me to be grateful of my Savior who is always resplendent in glorious light.  He never withers or falls.  He is strong, mighty, wonderful and loving.  We can lean on Him on any day of the week and at any time.  Our refuge, fortress, and stronghold.  He holds our lives in His caring Hands.  We can always depend on Him.

More faithful than a spouse.

More loving than a parent.

There is no one better than Jesus.  He is worthy of all our praise.

For now, I will take pictures of these trees and gaze at them until their last leaf falls.

One day I will see Jesus who went on a tree for me and I will gaze at His Hands that bore those nails.  I’ll gaze at His eyes that decided to love me in my sin.  I’ll gaze at His side that was pierced with a sword.  I’ll gaze at His arms that were wide open to bless little children.

I’ll gaze in my heart now until I get to see Jesus face to face…then I will be gazing at my Lord in worship forever and ever.

Gazing,

Pastor Sharon
